Cowboy Code of Ethics

Back in the day of the lawless frontier, cowboys came up with their own set of rules. Although unwritten, this “Cowboy Code of Ethics” was deeply respected. Covering everything from honoring the land, to honest and fair play, to a solid work ethic, any straight shooter didn’t dare violate this code for fear of becoming a pariah on the prairie.

We love and believe in these rules so much, we’ve adopted them as our very own code of Ethics at Battle Creek Lodge and The Brookside.

The Cowboy Code of Ethics

• Live each day with honesty & courage
• Take pride in your work & always do your best.
• Do what has to be done & always finish what you start. Be tough, but fair. When you make a promise, keep it.
• Practice tolerance and understanding of others.
• Be willing to stand up for what’s right.
• Ride for the brand.
• Talk less, say more.
• Remember that some things are not for sale.
• Know where to draw the line.
• Be an excellent steward to the land and its animals.

When we took on Battle Creek Lodge five years ago, and The Brookside just last year, we had simple goals. First, to provide affordable lodging with the amenities that guests deserve. Second, to make time for our guests. In a world where everything is bigger, better, newer and faster, our goal is to be smaller, stronger, more attentive, and to have REAL communication with our guests. Third, to be true to who we are and who we want to be. We won’t ever be everything to everyone…and, that is okay.

There are all kinds of travelers looking for all kinds of lodging in Keystone. Our goal is to make sure that everyone finds the accommodation to fit their needs. There are so many things we are proud of…our Health Department scores, our TripAdvisor ratings, our committed and loyal staff, our repeat guests who are considered part of our extended family, our supportive community, and so much more. But, what we are MOST proud of is staying true to the our code of ethics.
